Basic Key Word Question

Hello all,
I am very new to web design (2 weeks or so) and I am feeling things out as I go. I am currently adding my meta keywords and I have come across a few questions.
1. Do I enter the key words in the code on ALL of my pages or JUST the index page?
I suspect the answer is ALL of my pages to help the optimisation but if a search engine can find my home page and all pages linked to it (for the submit process) is there really any need?
2. Should I change the key words for each individual page depending on its content or keep them the same throughout?
I aim to design a site with a very broad reach of content. Many articles I write will be very specific within this broad topic. This means that I could have literally thousands of key words, far too many.
Any help would be much appreciated.
David

The meta keyword tag pretty much does nothing... None of the big search engines use it (yahoo, msn, aol, google, aj)

Like Ross the meta keyword tag is pretty much ignored by the major search engines. Many in the seo industry don't bother adding them. It's ok to, but it really isn't going to have much affect on things.

If you do use them then you should have them on every page. Just pick words you've used on the page, list a few of those phrases and move onto the next. No reason to spend more than 30 seconds to a minute with them on any page.

Do write a good meta description. More for the people who will see it under your link in search results, but also include keywords in the description where it makes sense to mention them.

put keywords in <TITLE> after your websites name
putting meta tags dont help a lot,
rather focus on keyword density.

I disagree on the keyword density. Yes it is a ranking factor, but I wouldn't spend time focusing too much on it. A couple extra keywords on a page isn't going to change things in any measurable way and it's always best to write all of your content for visitors first and search engines second. Certainly use keywords, but don't go overboard. At a certain poing if you have too many keywords on page it will be considered spam.

With page titles unless your company name uses your keywords it's best to have it come at the end of the title. Better to have keywords toward the front of your page title. It's also usually best to keep page titles short and it's not meant to be stuffed with keywords. Once or twice is enough.
