Password protect through dreamweaver

Hi everyone

I want to put a password protected page through Dreamweaver 6. I don't want login details as up to 10,000 people will be entering the password protected page and it would be impossible to set up a database for it. Is .htaccess the only way to do it? Is there a simpler way?

Thanks for any responses regarding this.

Dreamweaver cannot password protect pages. You might find some javascripting that would force a 'passwprd' but it's not going to be secure by any means.

If your hsoting account comes with a control panel it probably has something that will set up the .htaccess for you easily. Usually just a matter of selecting the page and telling the conrol panel what you want the password to be.

Otherwise you probably want to set up the .htaccess yourself or find a script. A script that runs server side is the way to go. You can probably find something in JavaScript, but like LadynRed said it won't be secure.

10000 people wont access the site at same moment(exceptions are those site which have some event /results of competitions etc. ),
so better implement a login using database,
if you are using good hosting, the servers can take that load for sure.

further you can optimize the db and code for better speed/resources utilization.
