I would like to add a couple of boxes to my webpage that have a couple of options that once clicked loads in the same section of the page. That probably didn't make sense! For example at Download.com they have quite a few tabs (software, music, games) of the page that once clicked on changes a window of the page to show content without loading the page again.

How is this done?

It's probably done using AJAX technologies. One of the technologies in AJAX allows for retrieving information from the server without refreshing the page.

At download.com they refresh the whole site when you click on a tab....

Are you referring to the tabs near the top of the page? I'm referring to the tabs nearer the middle of the page where the large green block changes.

Looks like they're setting the <div> to visible or hidden using javascript.
