When creating Flash sites the best way to determine how to charge is my taking inventory. Here is what I mean.
Determine how long it will take you to create a button. Then figure out how many buttons you will need to create. Do this for each asset of the site. Break everything down and figure out how long it is going to take. Then determine how long it is going to take to create the site after all assests are created.
If this is your first site with Flash let me encourage you to layout the entire site first. Know every single asset that needs to be created before you begin. Then create the assests. Have all of these assests: your graphics, buttons, movie clips, content, and anything else, created and ready to place on the stage. Then put everything together. Have navigation predetermined as well
Storyboard, storyboard, storyboard EVERYTHING! If you don't you will be very sorry somewhere during the project.
When things start going south on one of your first projects, you need to forget about the money to a certain extent. Don't sit there and figure that you are only going to get paid $5 an hour after this thing is finished. Think about the education that you are getting. Everyone goes through it. Chances are, you will too; at some point in time.
