I am using icons in my site, and I need an icon for my portfolio section.

What should I use?

how about giving us a few to pick from...or showingus what your site looks like so we know what "mood" you've allready established.

I'm thinking a couple screen shots of sites I've done, like cards maybe, or a briefcase with them sticking out a little bit. I'm open to anything though.

You could use any one of the things you mentioned Carter. With as big as it is going to be I think that I would have the word *portfolio* visible so that people know what your convention stands for. This way you don't really have to worry too much about people understanding. What is clear to me isn't necessarily clear to everyone else. Like the time a winter sporting goods company use a different convention for their icons. Instead of using a little shopping cart graphic, they use a little dog sled. No body understood what it was. When they changed back to standard icons, sales increased by a sizeable margin.

[Chip's Opinion]
So, be creative, but stay within a certain convention, or keep it clear somehow. You have the word *portfolio* popup on the rollover. You, however, may want to make this visible from the onstart so that people understand that this link is for your portfolio page.
[/Chip's Opinion]

I do like the briefcase idea!

Not gonna lie that has got to be the crappiest design for a website. Doesn't show up nice in firefox. Because its a business site, it should be easily viewable in all browsers and validated. It most likely doesn't even validate strict.

to be honest, i don't care about your opinion. It's still in progress. Take a look
at it again.

I already have plenty of business lined up. I don't care about IE that much. It's not pretty, but it certainly is readable.

It is actually designed for firefox. I don't know when you saw it when it looked bad in FF.

as for validation, It does in fact validate strict xhtml 1.0, as well as 508, and it has validating css. I didn't ask for web site reviews.
