I can code in css and xhtml, and know a fair amount of php. I also know how to use photoshop. What I can't do is get started!

CAn anyone give me some tips as to how to get a design started, how to layout some ideas on the page etc.. because I look at my white screen and think
"what the heck am I gonna put on that page?!" and "what colors should i use" etc etc... im sure many of you have been in a similar position? Maybe not.

Anyway, I was just wondering how people start a design, that's all!

First, you draw a box.
I know, that sounds simplistic, but I start with a box that is the width of the page I'm designing, usually 780px wide, height doesn't matter so much, but I make it at least 700px high.

I fill the box with a color if I want a colored background.
I might add another box on a new layer for my navigation area.

It helps to get some ideas from other sources.

Inspiration comes from many sources, the world around you, surely you have some idea what you want the site to be. Color combinations is going to take some time to learn, or you can use something like this:
