Okay, I am suppose to have a get together with a "client" for a website for a man who does Paintball Senario games. This will be my "First time" website for someone.

He said to me over the phone, sounded pretty basic.

Sounds like a basic site with "tabs" you can click on for "Events" "Picture Gallery" Calendar of events" and so on.

Sounds like a pretty easy set up.

Now...this...

1. How much should I charge for the design of such a basic site?

2. Should I mark-up the "Monthly fee" to about 5 bucks more a month, so I can make a 5 buck a month profit (ie - Hosting service charges 10 bucks a month, I charge him 15....thinking about charging him for a year though) Should I just charge a flat-rate?

3. When I meet with him, should we "hand draw" a layout?

4. Should I just design the site and then show it to him and see what he thinks?

5. Are there other factors I should bring up at this "Meeting"?

Different markets command different prices. Call you competition and ask what they charge.

Hm, here is my local competition

http://www.flawebmaster.com/website_design_rates.html

Cripes...600 bucks for a basic one-page site, where the owner doesn't really do much with the site (ie - clubs and such)

I feel like I'd be charging alot.

hello,
You need to discuss the website specifications first. Then, discuss about the software to be used for developing the website (html, cgi, php, asp etc.). You can also ask he had any other websites in mind that resemble the proposed site. Sometimes, clients want customization of off-the-shelf scripts like discussion boards or poll script. You may need to take into consideration. Then, arrive at the total number of hours that need to be spent for development. Total cost would be the number of hours X man-hour cost. Take appropriate overheads while calculating this figure, like visiting customer premises, phone calls, after sales support, etc. Good luck!
