Hey everyone,
I bought a new 19" LCD widescreen monitor yesterday. I've been looking at a whole bunch of sites on it since then, and it has been a somewhat illuminating experience.
Sites such as this one tend to look rather stretched out, and oddly enough, fixed-width sites built for 800x600 look nicer. It seems to be the liquid-width sites that look odd, unless they're done in such a way as to incorporate 3 or more fairly wide columns.
Anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone senses an upcoming trend in this regard, since widescreen monitors are generally close to or in many cases the same as fullscreen monitors. Do we start worrying about 1440 x 900, 1680 x 1050, resolutions within the next 8-12 months or is this something most people won't buy?
Personally, I think we will...as people discover these monitors and realize their relative picture clarity vs. fullscreen monitors, I think we'll see a trend toward them. But nothing immediate.
Your thoughts?
