Hi guys im new here, my knowledge of coding and stuff isnt much but i seem to be doing ok.

Anyway I am thinking of having a rating system on my site for when visitors use a store they can fill in a short questionnaire of 5 or so multiple choice questions to give an overall score for that store.

Does anyone know where you can get some coding or tools etc and whether it is hard to do or whether you have to pay for this service?

Heres my site if you want to have a look:

www.find-it-indigo.co.uk

Thanks.

Do you have a specific programming language in mind? One place you can try is HotScripts. They have alot of scripts both free and pay and will most likely have something close to what you want.

It would need to be HTML. Something with maybe 5 star rating system which doesnt take up too much room. Maybe the question box could open in a new window so doesnt take up too much room on the main page.

iv looked at hotscripts, there are some ok ones, most u have to pay for, the free ones you cant really manipulate.

Maybe I misinterpreted what you wanted. Will the ratings need to be displayed on the site for others to see? Or are you just wanted the results of the survey emailed to you.

If you want the ratings displayed then you're going to want something more than HTML. If you just want the results emailed to you then you can use HTML alone, but even then a scripting language will be the better option.

There's only so much you can or should do with HTML.

The should be able to manipulate the free scripts at HotScripts. You need to understand the language they're written in, but the point of the free scripts is to provide the source code for you so you can edit it.

I dont think i was being too clear sorry. yeah i would like the results displayed so visitors can see which ones are good. i need to manipulate the script so that it will fit in with the overall look of the site. i have seen one which look ok but was in javascript. do u know where i could find some basics on changing this type of script?

Thanks

That's what I thought you meant, but I wanted to be sure. Something like that will need to use some kind of scripting language. Changing the look though will still be done in either HTML of CSS depending on what the person who wrote the script used.

The HTML and CSS may be wrapped inside of the JavaScript though. Look for lines with document.write() in them. The HTML and CSS will likley in inside the parenthesis and that should be what you would need to edit to customize the look.

Here's an intro tutorial on JavaScript from W3Schools. Even a quick read through it should make it easier for you to understand the code in the script you downloaded and there are plenty of other resources online.

Feel free to ask specific questions in the JavaScript forum here too. Most of us will need to see the code in order to be able to offer specific advice. If you have the script integrated on a page online you can post the link or you can also post the code in the forum itself.
