I run a web design club at the school where I teach and would like to upload a program to our server that will allow pupils to build websites online.

The idea is that they can access them from home and carry on with the designs they started in school.

As we are non-profit making the program has to be free or donated from some kind company that may be interested in sponsoring our efforts.

Has anyone any ideas where I might be able to get the necessary script to complete our project.

Any help would be appreciated.

Why teach them to rely on a 'builder' program ? Why not teach them to code properly with nothing but notepad or other text editor ??

Likely it's because they're not training webmasters and they're just looking for something simple for the masses. It's not an agreeable logic, but it is understandable.

Ron: Maybe you could think outside the box a bit on this one. If it's a school, perhaps what you could do is make it a comp sci class project. It'd be a hell of a learning experience for them and it would get your job done on a typical non-prof budget ($50 and a can of beans.)

If your in need of a server, I have one for free, I also have Fantastico witch lets you install these Content Management systems. The best way to learn is use Front Page. Its so easy to understand, you can make a website in minutes not hours, and also you can look at the code and see what changes you made. It can even add code. Anyway if you need hosting i also have front page support on my hosting. www.sandspeed.net

We give schools and charities free unlocks for our www.straight2web.net client side CMS.
It's easy enough to change the CSS and HTML but in safe mode it's very easy for people just to modify their site’s content.
Because the future is going to be far more site builders than hand coding I'd suggest it's more important most children understand what they can do with it than get too much into the coding. Just contact me through the website form if you want an unlock.

Thanks all for your suggestions...

Ladynred & webfinity - The reason the kids are not being taught using Notepad is because these kids ( 11 year olds ) are not the brightest buttons in the box and the Web Club is a means to get them interested in doing something creative and worthwhile. So if has to be within their grasp and putting up a website with a builder is something I think they can do.

Sandspeed thanks but we got a server, People-Finder cheers but that would mean installing the software on school computers which we are not allowed to do.

Adam - your understanding is correct and a web project is part of the curriculum when they move up a next year, so no point reinventing the wheel, but cheers.

jayr - Thanks for the offer.

EngAdven - I will probably be in touch when I've tried out your script...

But once again thank you all....uralljust2
