Im trying to create a search in my site that will return portions of a list ive created in my site. Anyone have any idea how to do this. I'm a novice. Thanks for the help

Well, there are two ways you can go -- (a) to write your own search engine, and (b) to use the search engine that someone already created for you (e.g., Google). Unfortunately, the information you provided is not enough to give you further advices. Solutions suitable for your site depend on technologies you are using on it (e.g., are you using a static/dynamic content, are you using databases etc.).

Basically what I'm doing is creating a site with frontpage and I need to create a file that lists businesses and that allows visitors to search for businesses by city and state. Thanks for the help

As far as I understand you, your site consists of a number of static pages (i.e., it does not use databases/server-side executables). Then you can use search services provided by Google (http://www.google.com/searchcode.html) or similar SiteSearch services provided by other search providers (e.g., http://www.freefind.com/).
