Im trying to insert an interactive button. I want to have the text on two lines so that the button graphic stays small and the text does not get too wide. Advice on how to create the line break would be much appreciated. I've tried altering the button in photoshop, but that results in javascript errors.

Altering the button in Photoshop should not result in javascript errors unless you're changing the name of the graphic.. or maybe the size.

To make a line-break in HTML, you use the <br> tag.
