I am currently searching for a content management system, a very simple system, in which clients can update their info & contact details online, but there is just so many providors to choose from! Who can you recommend?
I highly enjoy and recommend Xoops. It uses Smarty as its template engine so theming is very simple. It also has a very large community with many modules available. The first site in my signature is an example of a xoops site.
Joomla & Mambo are also good, however, the best way to check out which is right for you, is to test em out.
Go to http://www.opensourcecms.com/ , and choose the one you'd like to try out. You get to use it like an Admin, so you can get the real feel of it. Once you feel comfortable, download and install onto your website. Their service is free, which makes it even better.
Yea Joomla is far superior to any other in my opinion. I've been developing in PHP for many years and I find the functionality and robust interface make this the #1 CMS.
Ok glad I found this thread. I was just getting ready to build a website using drupal. One our competitors is using Drupal for a really cool website, and its working out well.
What are the pros/cons for Drupal, Joomla, and Mambo? Which is easiest to work with from the developer standpoint? Which is easiest for the end user when it comes to making general text updates?
i like drupal ,all my website are designed by drupal ,it s easy ,it seems google like drupal ,all my pages are referenced ,
foops and joomla are good too
I use Joomla, and can't fault it. It has plenty of components and add-ons to expand its usability, if you find a good SEO component (and it has a few) then you can get proper SEO style pages rather than ?id=1 etc...and all my pages are referenced (Google anyway).
In some ways Joomla could be a little bewildering for a complete novice to use, but with the right templates you can edit existing pages without having too enter the admin section, and like most good CMS's you can add posts from the frontpage once logged in and the correct links set etc...but with a little guidance or playing it becomes clear what you need to do and what the options do when posting new items. There is a book also available 'Building Websites with Joomla!' which helps demystify its usage.
As to which system to use it is mainly personal preference...I have briefly looked at drupal, wordpress and liked what I saw but preferred Joomla as it seemed to offer more extra features (even if they are in add-ons), I have been an avid user of the Postnuke (portal/CMS) system and created one or two modules for it but now decided to move to Joomla for the few extras it offers...
