I'm just wondering, how exactly did the webmaster of this search page incorporate logos and mouse-over screencaptures of his "search results"? The images/logos seem to be stored on his own server, so I am wondering if he is using some kind of third-party software to crawl all the sites related to his links, or if this has already been done by the third-party software, or if he maybe hired an engineer to design this system himself?

Any ideas?

They could have done it all by hand, like when they add a new entry they could also put in the logo.

I thought about that, but if you click around his site, you'll see that his engine searches for tens of thousands of terms. Plus, just by looking at the logos and screencaps, it seems like he has some kind of crawler that goes to the sites and searches around for a logo, probably looking for "logo+.gif" or something, perhaps later refined by hand either by his people or whoever provided him this service. If it fails to find a logo, it apparently just takes a screencap of the whole site and generates "logo" image.

Snap.com will do this for you, just include their JS into your site and it will automatically provide screen caps of the site in question.

That's it! That's exactly what he is using. The only thing is, I don't see where the logos are generated. I understand that snap can handle the hover effect, giving you a preview of the site, but how is he getting the logos to the left of the "search results"?
