Hi All

I have just joined this forum. I also belong to a forum for the hobby I do and they get the hump if you don’t introduce so as a quickie im from London England, 30 years old and starting to get into web design. I have had enough of my usual job J

I have designed some pages that look good on all the computers I have checked up until now. The pages were built using a small lap top so I would have thought that the pages would look good on a small screen and just be enlarged to fit a big screen.

I have used several monitors and it all seemed fine till I just looked on my Mums pc. There is a scroll bar at the bottom. I really don’t want this what can I do to stop this and make sure the pages look good on all screens.

Im sure my Mums screen is the same size as my laptop???

Any suggestions welcome.

www.4x4owner.com is the site. I have some others as well all doing the same thing

Thanks

James

Hello James B,

Nice site you got there man.

The screen might be the same but the resolution settings maybe different. Almost all screens nowadays have a minimum of 800 pixels width. I can see that your header image is 949 px width. To make sure there is no bottom scroll bar you have to make sure the page width (including the header image) is 800 px width or less.

Thanks.

Ideally, you want the width no more than 780px for an 800x600 resolution. This allows room for the vertical scrollbars, otherwise your layout will appear to 'jump' when the vertical scrollbar appears and you'll then get the horizontal scrollbar too.

Hi,

Thank you both for the replys.

I feel a bit stupid as I had read about the screen res thing but though as they looked the same size it would be ok. Doh!

I have not uploaded the nex site yet as Im having problems getting online at home. Currently at work.

Hopefully I will be on this site a lot from now on.

Take care

Regards

James B
