Hello everyone. I've been doing web design for about a good 4 years now. Mostly working with small business, and personal sites. While i'm doing my design and such the question of what type of CMS to use is always a big question. Especially for clients that are not very computer savy.

What type of CMS do you prefer and why?

What type of work or design do u recommend to your clinets.

Is making a custom CMS better? What language is the prefered way besides PHP and MySQL.

Links to places that can help me brew my own. are always welcomed.

Thank you for your time.

It all boils down to the budget, resources and time you have in hand. Creating a full scale cms in 2 weeks under 1000 usd? No way.

i'm always cruising around http://www.opensourcecms.com and playing around with the different CMS' and other scripts they got

One CMS that i've fell in love with is LucidCMS: http:www.lucidcms.com , it's a quick, easy install, fair amount of plugins, super lightweight and customizable, and fairly active developer forum.

I tested out the custom CMS waters about a year ago, and it was just way too expensive for my target clients (small-medium business mostly). Another problem with a custom CMS is you could shell out the $$$$ and get a site perfect for what you want now, but what if in 6 months you're targetting a new niche or need a site targetted for completely different functions?

Another route you may want to explore is Django http://www.djangoproject.com/

Thanks for yur views on the subject. Its always so hard to make everything that yur current boss would like. Without turning everything down.

Any sites or things i can look at for a simple script to just publish content. Not a CMS just something i can integrate into any template or design for quick and easy updating of multiple pages of content.
