The question is, would you feel right charging a client $8,000 for the above site design?
Just doesn't seem right does it?

Bwahahahaha Tom -- viewing it in Firefox, it's a very bad design ... especially with these errors:

It looks like an old template I have seen before... a really old template ...
The contact fields on the front page are pretty messed up in firefox.. the blue links at the bottom of the page could use some css. The footer text extends beyond the boarders of the page. The background doesn't line up with anything in particular, almost like it was designed for another site. The blue on blue text is hard to read.
Just my opinion ummmm most certainly not worth 8gs. That company in in the same town I live in and proof that there are allot of web designers out there giving legit ones a bad name with price gouging and poor quality work.
How do you know it was that price? Did you design it? If you did get that price for it, publicly announcing or gloating is kind of bad thing to do considering this page will probably get picked up by Google and may be a search result for Cleveland dental office ...

and travalagent
Your page:
Code:
Below are the results of checking this document for XML well-formedness and validity.
Error Line 55 column 24: there is no attribute "onClick".<center><button onClick="window.location='http://www.faremax.com/agent_rt.aspx?a
maybe instead of cut pasting errors, you could shed some lite on repairing them?

Sydpix - thanks for your input; by showing the errors, I'm always assuming the poster "created" the site and should know how to repair them ... I'm in no means going to show it line-by-line.
As for the code you posted - I wasn't asking for a site review, but my validator say's my website is 100% compliant using "HTML Tidy".

travelagent, my no means am I trying to be a smart a**. I just find allot of people in here are quick to show errors and no solutions or suggestions. I am partially to blame myself.
Anyone can just point out errors from a script that finds them for you.

I would have to agree, no way that site is worth $8,000 . As already pointed out, it's a mess in FF and it's a mess of nested tables and deprecated code... so 1990's. It has no DOCTYPE, and comes out to 39 validation warnings.
I might also point out that - validation isn't everything..

but it sure goes a long way !!

I understand what you're saying Sydpix and agree -- guess I'm from the old school of "OLD" hand-coders (yes; LadynRed went to the same school... ) but I can't stand seeing sloppy code!
As for validation isn't everything -- I respectfully disagree...

I live in Cleveland as well, and for being home to CSS guru himself Eric Myers our town is completely clueless when to comes to modern web design.
I see new $10,000+ sites launched every month that are table-based, code soup IE 6-only monstrosities. Sadly, people here are more concerned with what you can do with Flash than actual usability and web standards.
Most job postings aren't interested in CSS unless you have 5 years of Ruby on Rails experience.

I just realized the problem with the post. The title's missing something.
Worth $80 .00?
Yeah, that sounds about right.
Seriously, this is a sloppy effort. Beyond the errors TA mentioned, the cheap SEO trick at the bottom of the pages is pathetic at best. If it's that important, put it in the body copy.
http://clevelanddentaloffice.com/site-map.htm <--- this is just a joke.
So yeah, $80. I figure for minimal effort, minimal reward.

Opera was the only brower which was able to see it cleanly. It looked kind of good in Opera. The only thing I would have changed was the following. (but not worth 8,000)

sorry but, even if it validated, I don't see any way that you can charge someone $8000 for that!
as said, it's completely screwed in firefox and the overall design looks like a 8 years ago website

For the record, this is NOT my work lol. I just couldn't believe it when I saw it.
I'm mean really. Ethics went straight out the window on this one. Well, maybe this designer REALLY feels is work is this valuable. I don't know.

I recently lost a client of four years to a so called all in one promotions company here in the Cleveland area. I was told they sold her a complete package consisting of, web design, newspaper adds, coupons ect ect...
When I went to the site that took a year to get up, I was stunned when the site and wasn't viewable Firefox !
These companies are flooding the market. They claim to offer everything in one package and hire noob's to do the work. It makes me sick.
The firefox view:
Ie view, Not all that impressive either.
These companies around here are seriously getting ripped off.

LMAO -- seems that some of us could make some serious money with many of these companies getting ripped off; all we'd have to do is just charge 1/3 of what they've been charged and stay busy all year!

Here is another supposed web site design company in this area. I have talked with several clients that had websites built by these people. I have actually viewed pages they've created where the photo directories were wrong and left pages with blank image holders?
http://www.merrickgraphics.com/old_site/About-News.htm
They recently merged with
http://www.davisprintingco.com/
It's just sad... and they get business. The right guy and right salesman could make a buck or two if they put their head to it...
hmmm...

The sad thing is these people are doing a web search and call up the designer that came up first on their search results. This is what the doctor did in this case. It is amazing the trust people are willing to put in a designer or business when they don't even have the slightest clue about the process or what makes a design good.

The problem is universal, unfortunately. There are some BIG 'web design' firms here in Nashville that do nothing but churn out Flash and tables-based trash like the stuff above. It drives me nuts.. lol.
I ran across one such company that CLAIMS, on their site, to use 'web standards' and claims full Accessibility, yet when you look at the sites they're building, it's a complete joke. A local SEO firm here recently became host to the Refresh 'movement' so we now have a 'Refresh Nashville" group. Two of the people who came to the first meeting used to work for that 'design' firm making 'web standards' claims. I asked them about it.. they said the guy who runs the company latches on to current buzz words and uses them - but that's as far as it goes !! Shameful. We are trying to get Refresh Nashville rolling, get more people interested and involved, and hopefully that will eventually help turn some of these web design companies from the dark side of tables and Flash only.
