Up until a few days ago, I haven't heard of the term "Web 2.0-style." I'm slightly confused by it, since people keep referring to it as a web design concept. But how can it be a design concept when "Web 2.0" refers to applications with decentralized sources of input and data streams such as Digg and del.icio.us? Is this just another meaningless buzzphrase that people use to sound smarter?

Kind of and kind of not. While the phrase is subject to a thousand explanations this is how I view it...

I think of the style of Web 2.0 as an amalgamation of the leading Web 2.0 sites designs. Generally, what I get out of it is bright/concise colors, great use of white space and less is more. Others will invariably add to as well as disagree with my assessment, it is just the nature of the "buzz phrase".

I've always been under the impression that Web2.0 is/was about content and not presentation. I think the style of design people call Web2.0 is just where everyone is at with the trend at this moment in time.

Web 2.0 is no new technology in and on itself. Refers to just shiny and professional design trends.

There was a feature in a web design magazine i read about the whole Web 2.0 thing. I understand it be more about content that is updated and maintained by the users of the site and moving websites into more interactive and user-friendly experiences. I think it also links to web applications replacing desktop applications.

Of course the sites that call themselves "web 2.0" have a specific stye like Republikin says.
