Ok, call me a newbie but, since I have worked with tables for so long and I'm now utilizing xhtml and css. I'm trying to eliminate the  's all over my sites.

Any suggestions in creating a grid to harbor a data grid in xhtml?

If it is actually a grid (and by a grid, I'm assuming something spreadsheetesque), then a table is okay for that.

Pretty much, yes. Tables are not forbidden for actual data, they just shouldn't be used for layout of a page.
