style="background: URL(/images/home_windows.jpg); color: inherit;"

That'll do it. Of course, you can throw that into external CSS too if you like.

She's not the only one to please when it comes to proper code validation -- here's your code warnings ...

Code:
line 48 column 77 - Warning: <table> proprietary attribute "background"
line 69 column 5 - Warning: <td> proprietary attribute "background"
line 90 column 193 - Warning: trimming empty <span>
line 90 column 172 - Warning: trimming empty <span>
line 90 column 284 - Warning: trimming empty <span>
line 90 column 351 - Warning: trimming empty <span>
line 90 column 422 - Warning: trimming empty <span>

keggy: you can put it in the TD tag itself:

<td style="background: URL(/images/home_windows.jpg); color: inherit;">

Or you can do something like this in your CSS:

.windows {
URL(/images/home_windows.jpg);
color: inherit;
}
....
....
....
<td class="windows">

Either will work. It's up to you.

thanks Adam & travelAgent, i'm afraid i'll concede defeat and i daren't do code like you suggest, purely because i can't.

all i want is a tableless site written in css and validated so i can put a pretty W3C logo on pages

I think it best to post a competition and would kindly ask if you could recommend a price via a PM message. Don't want to offer too low an ammount for fear of getting a butchered site in return but then on the contrary how much will it cost for a decent coder to rework site?

thanks in advance

Yes.. me and TravelAgent.. King and Queen of validation..

LOL...

It could take a couple of hours or more and if you put in up as a competition, specify that you want it XHTML and CSS and no tables.

It's worth paying whatever just to make LadynRed & travelAgent and others happy, that's my goal. I want that elusive logo on the site, just as icing on the cake.

Ooooohhh yes, a tableless site, written in css AND XHTML validated, sounds too good to be true. You reckon 2 hours LadynRed! What do others think.

Thanks in advance

LNR is right; should take about 2 hrs or less -- then too; it would behoove you to learn CSS / XHTML on your own, so that in the future if you needed to add / delete anything from your site, you'd know what to do.

but travelAgent, i can't even spell XHTML

i know what you mean though. However, i'd rather read about quantum foam and zero point energy as it really floats my boat. Electro-gravitational levitation is a possibility for our generation, bit off topic, but what the hell.

i'll start playing around with css like trying to make background black and turn font to itallics, just to see what it's all about. Sounds daunting though from the code snippet you sent.

Thanks
