I'm trying to build a counter similar to ubuntucounter.com .
Where the number of users of a particular s/w are counted and aggregated.
Can someone suggest me the appropraite s/w please?

i use statcounter and was thinking you write a little VB app or similar that reads the HTML stat page and extrapolates the appropriate string. You then present this data however you want. You could use macros in excel (VBA)

Just a thought and i'm sure i'm completely off the mark. in hindsight there must be something out there for your purpose.
