To Flash, or not to Flash? That is the question.

I'm designing a website for a pretty small company but I want it to look real nice.

If I use flash, I will be going off of a template primarly and be adding some of my own custom images in as well.

It's standard to develope an alternative for non flash browsers right? What would be the easiest way to do this? Should I just convert my flash page into an image map if flash isn't detected?

Will I have any trouble embedding HTML into the flash pages? I need my customer to be able to upload images to their website like into a web gallery.

I have macromedia flash and I've done some stuff with it, but I really don't know how to design in flash, do you guys think I might be getting in too far over my head?

Humbly yours,

Noobstein

Noobie Ralph -- if you and the the company want to lose visitors and/or sales, go ahead ... do the stoopid thing and design it using flash...

...shaking my head, wondering where do these people come from???...

*sigh*
Not all companies rely on hits from search engines or whatever, you know.

anyways, personally, I would code an alternate version in HTML that kind of looks like the flash version.

Gotta love the "kind-of" look. You mine as well get a young teen to do it because its pointless to make one "sort of" looking like it. Flash is nothing but garbage. I've said it many times and I'll say it again: USE FLASH SPARINGLY!

Speaking as an internet user rather than a web designer, I hate flash. I really really hate it. Take sites like mtv.com. I love mtv, and I wish I could go to their site. But the dam site drives me nuts... literally. I don't think I have come across any Flash site that I actually like. None off the top of my head anyway.

That chart is way too complicated.

There's nothing wrong with using Flash in moderation. Just don't build your entire site with it. Use it for non-essential functions and elements such as banners and sections of the site you'd like to draw the human eye to, but use HTML for anything crucial.

Yes, Just a banner. Flash looks nice intergrated into HTML, but don't overdue it. Keep it at like 1 banner. I'm no expert webmaster, Infact, I'm a startup right now, knowling VERY little besides installing Php scripts and stuff, But i'm a long time internet user, and as a consumer/Internet user, I get turned off by too much flash on websites. Just makes a content/business website too difficult/slow to navigate. Putting flash on the banners and stuff, though, is nice, and really no downside.
