I have been designing sites for about four years now. I recently designed a site (gave them a break because it was a friend of a friend), and every so often they call me to complain that they are not getting any business from it. I submitted them to the search engines and successfully got them listed on Google and Yahoo about six months ago. Now there position dropped. Last month I gave them free ads on Google where they receive over 2000 exposures. Long story, but they know very little about computers, and can not even accept emails. I think the site may need to be more personal, but they gave me know pictures to work with. I made a truck with their logo on it myself. They aggravation that they are causing me, I don't think is worth the $20 hosting. I would like to hand the account over to someone else, but I don't know how.
Any one have any suggestions?

Sounds like it's butt kickin' time. So you designed the site, and you're hosting it. Did you sign on to be the webmaster, too? If not, put the ball back in their court.

Even if you did, they have some responsibility here. They can't just sit back and expect you to just bring them piles of cash. They have to get off their lazy butts and either make a commitment to the site or kill it.

How you handle this depends on what responsibility you accepted. But either way you have to put all your cards on the table.

Interesting, but if you don't sign any document and this customer did to you a lots of problems, you have to discuss very seriously with them!

I have the same problem with many of my clients, most people still believe in the old "If you build it, they will come" scenerio, which we all know is not true. It just comes down to how much crap you are willing to take from people. My company has severed ties with clients in the past over similar situations, people want you to do all the leg work and they aren't willing to pay for it. You definatly need to establish some boundaries, and it is always a good idea to get it in writing.
