You mean for building a site ??
The best 'tool' for writing code - a text editor. WYSIWYG editors, like Dreamweaver, create crappy code on their own, so until you can hand code a site from scratch, DW isn't really a good tool.

The later versions of DW aren't as bad as they used to be for crappy code, but if you do use DW, you need to know how to edit the code etc correctly and not fall into the trap of "layer1", "layer2" etc...

I Like Dreamweaver, I code 'by hand' but it's handy to see the preview of how it's looking in the split window view.

Dreamweaver will write some nasty code if you let it.

Our precious Lady'n'Red said that DW produce nasty code, so You'll better learn how to code by hand in text editor.

Of course, DW in Code View is also good choice, That means that You code by hand and You can see what happens with Your page. But first, learn (x)HTML and, I suggest, CSS.

I prefer text PSPad.

I think all WYSIWYG editors are a bit slow and difficult to code properly these days.
I also can't understand people who create the whole site with text editors either. Just too slow.
I do everything with templates and CMS software these days. The little ones must be fast with great SEO and CSS structures, the big ones bring more features but can be slow to setup and less optimized.

The coloring of tags helps a lot plus I use its features a lot of the time, but I write all of the code by hand. DW just makes everything faster.
