Hi,

I am finding it really hard to fill my portfolio to give a fair few examples of the work I can do.

I have one website which has come to a stand still for the minute but I would like to be working on a few different things while I have the time to put on my website / portfolio so I can give different examples of what I can do.

The only thing is finding people who would like me to do some work for them.

I am not trying to be the next big webdesigner and be the best in the world or anything like that I just enjoy doing it and would like to help other people out so how can I do this?

I have thought about offering my services for free as this is the only thing that will get people to have a website?

Any tips from the experts?

Thanks

I used to find it hard too. I guess you have two options:

1. do what I did and make your own company, find some awesome people and start off making no money in search of that ultimate idea (while doing some design work)

2. join forum, hunt around, network with the net and get people to let you do design for them. Free templates and wordpress themes can also help (but not too many otherwise people think u can't hold a proper job and will do it all for free :S)

Good luck

Have you thought of creating sites for yourself around an affiliate program? For example, www.wdisney.com is a site I own and designed and will be part of my portfolio which I still need to post on my site. When I do, the good majority of the sites in my portfolio will actually be sites owned by me and not customers.

Other examples are www.easycreditcompare.com, www.plasmatv-compare.com, www.superdupertshirts.com, & still working on www.coursefinderonline.com

Maybe some of these will give you ideas as to types of sites you can start.

Designing sites for yourself might be a good way to build up your portfolio and to build an extra stream of income using adsense & other ad networks.

Think of a niche, a domain name & design away!

It'll also give you lots of practice for when a real customer needs your services.

Thanks for the advice.

At the minute I have my own website (company) but nobody is really going to be interested in somebody who has made only 1 website.

I have looked into something like you have done Davet but I don't seem to be able to think of any ideas at the moment but I will do as soon as I can merely to make money from Adsense but I don't think I will put that on my portfolio.

Ladyinred: Which freelance websites would you say are the best?

Thanks
