Hi,

I have been using «these» as quotation marks mark on my websites. However I recently learned they are pretty locaalised for Scandinavia! (I did not know that!)

What are the best quotation marks for a global audience and why?

I'm not sure, but I think that "these" are the best quotation marks to use anywhere.

‘British’ and “American”. (Notice the difference from "these".)

You could do a geo-IP lookup and send down whatever quote marks the user is most likely to be familiar with. Or, you could make a graphic that looks like the halfway point two?

It seems like US-English is the most common, but my perspective would probably be a bit different if I didn't live here. In any case, I think people will see a quote in context and figure it out, if they haven't seen one particular version before.

You should think about using images for the quotes, so that if you change your mind it'll be easier to change your site.

The code for the standard 'curly' quote marks is this:

“These are the days that try men's souls ”
