Hey all! What information should be included in the footer section of a web page? What's the minimum info and what would be consider "footer overload"?
Typically you want information pertaining to your site but not necessarily pertaining to your main content structure. For instance you can have a "Privacy Policy" "Contact Us" "About us" and yoursitename (c). You can also include a number of related elements like links to other people, advertising info etc. I use the priv policy, aboutus, contact and sitename(copyright) + wc3 validation button in my footer
My footers almost always contain our copyright information, 'designed by' info, and if we need them, photo credits for those images where we had to for usage.

I'd say site copyrights and credit to the designer/programmer if needed. Then if it's a professional business site: privacy policy, contact and about, also possibly testimonials.

I think it depends on your site and where you've added things. For example like Jordan I'll place policies and a sitemap in the footer but I've seen main people place both at the top somewhere.
I generally include a short row of menu links to main section pages for people who are at the bottom of the page so they don't have to scroll back up. Also if you've used a javascript or flash menu having a simple html lets search spiders crawl your site.
I also add copyright information to the footer.
Other than the links and the copyright it depends on the layout of the site. I think I've placed everything that's been mentioned above in a footer at one time or another.

I would suggest add all necessary links to other pages in the footer. So you can link to all you web pages from home page. For home page you can make different footer.
That might work fine if you have a small site, but it's overkill as your site grows. I think it's better to link a sitemap that then links to all your pages.
The really important pages of your site you can link to in the footer, which is why I'd suggest adding the links to top section pages, but all your pages is going to start looking like spam very quickly as your site grows.
My own preference is to only have one row of links in the footer, but that's only my preference. I think two is fine and three is too much.
