Hi I am very new to MX, so excuse me if I sound Unintelligent. I have tought my self how to use Dreamweaver (basically) and created my first site. I have previewed my site in web browser and am happy with the final product. Now I am keen to put my web site on the actual internet, with its own adress. I have absolutely no idea how to do this and would appreciate any help any one may be able to input. Its very frustrating that I have my site ready to go, and don't know how to get it on the web for my friends and family to see. Hopefully someone can help me and I look forward to sharing my work with you if I have success with this issue. Cheers Matt

Do you have hosting for your website? If not, you will need to get some - depending on the purpose of your site, as well as its size, you can either opt to pay for hosting, or use free hosting (try http://www.freewebspace.net/forums/ for some good free hosts)

Then you'll have to upload your site - if your host has FTP, then simply use Dreamweaver's FTP tool, if not then you'll have to upload each HTML file and all other files using whatever fileuploader you get with your host.

Nemo's right. If you have some cheesy free hosting then you'll probably just have to use one of the hosts crappy inpage uploaders.
If you can use a real ftp then you'll need to put the info in for the MX ftp crap. Like the host name, root directory, username and password.

Once you know what your hosting is going to be like, specify, and somebody here will be able to tell you what to do. Good luck

thankyou joseph mills and nemo for your help. It doesn't sound that complicated to be honest I just didn't mush of an idea. I've got a good ISP so I get 15mb free web space which is ample for my needs, And I am using MX2004 with Broadband so I am able to use Dreamweavers FTP. Am very excited about getting into it. When I have finally finnished and put my site online I will sure to let you know. Thanks again! It's great that there is a site where so many people are willing to help each other out in this subject!

Hi
I was wondering if you could let me know how you got on as I am about to start working on my site and would like to know the steps to get it online.
I am in a similar situation to yourself, going to be setting up on my ISP's webspace.

Cheers

Once you have your webspace established, you need a good steady FTP programme, I suggest the free for personal use, Smart FTP or if you don't like that. Try cute FTP although I much prefer smart FTP.

Once you have these set up, you need to enter the FTP address of your host, login and your password to access your space. These will vary depending on your host.

Then simply upload the appropriate files in the main folder, create a sub folder for any files such as an images folder for pictures. Be sure that these folders are set up exactly like in your folder where you keep them on your desktop. Or the links won't work.

Try that and reply back if you have any further problems
