Knowing nothing about web design, I think you should check & see if Hostgator still offers their sitebuilder (use their live chat or create a support ticket). I know they used to offer it; basically you have to input information about your website, contact info, about, etc & you can choose the website layout. The sitebuilder would literally only require you to enter text into fields/forums & push buttons (or click links) to get your website published.
I think this would be your best option, and then as you play around with things you could deal with HTML editors & FTP.
However, if you want to dig right into learning how to do things on your own, http://www.oswd.org has quite a few free web templates.
You could also setup a Wordpress blog through Fantastico (an option in the control panel that Hostgator uses), though a blog isn't quite the same as the website that Sitebuilder would make for you. |
