Image gallery, video gallery and about 2 static pages. No design, duplication of another site that was database driven and now has to be moved to another server. Some additional coding required, not just a copy/paste job.
Client wants it done within 3 days. What would you guys charge? If you can't disclose your guesstimates in a response then PM me, I would appreciate it, thanks!

£2000 under normal conditions, done in 3 days. I wouldn't take it though, the deadline is too soon, contracts have to be written and designs processed. 3 days is an irresponsible time frame in my opinion.

Agreed but I do not want to lose this client as they have a ridiculous budget. I would draft the contract tomorrow and have it signed off on same day begin work same day (tomorrow) finished thursday 10pm.
If it wasn't an "irresponsible" deadline how much extra would you charge?
There are no designs to be processed btw because a site already exists. I am merely duplicating it and bringing it onto my server, in addition to that I have to add an image and video gallery and upload a couple thousand images to said gallery etc.

Ah right. Sorry I misread. Sum still stands as I charge by the hour and not by the work. I probably would take it under those circumstances then.

I too charge by the hour but I for me to put everything else on hold to get this out in 3 days I would have to charge additional rate, what do you charge per hour and how much (number) would you guesstimate charging for a rush delivery? Thanks ;op

I charge about £70 an hour for short term(day-week) web development on short term projects. Less if it is a long term project(A few weeks/months). The longer the project the less I charge since it is more secure to do so.
Generally, I don't like putting work aside so if I had another short term project I would either extend my working hours, which means no sleep, or if it was a long term project, check the contracts to see if when the next milestone was and if I had enough time to throw this in.
For the above job £2000, which works out at 3 days work. But only if I could fit it in. I have it written into my default client agreement that their work will not be put on hold for other projects and while I may have more than one project on at a time the time is always budgeted.

This depends on circumstances. I've got existing clients that ask me once in a while to do this (I've even done a site in one day), and I do it for them at my normal rate because they're existing clients with 15-20 sites apiece for me to do, and because they usually don't require much programming.
If I were to pick up a one-shot deal and have to take out my existing clients, 50% surcharge.
This doesn't sound overly complicated, so it could probably be done in a day.
I'm not going to provide specific figures because well...I don't do that here. Not even in PM. That's my decision and mine alone, knowhatI'msayin'?
You should do the same, qwik3r.

Man I'm the worst with this sort of thing. I thought I could get a project done in 3 days. It was a pretty advanced project for a very large web site. I had to copy directories bigger than many peoples hard drives, run the entire site of a database, and keep it more efficient than the sites current static methods. It really sounds impossible to make the site more efficient but I did it and was just a little too late. Lost the money =/. 3 days pay. I'd really consider this CLOSELY before I would say yes to 3 days. You need a plan B. They help :P.

I know the date is unrealistic but the budget they have i was basically told to "make the site and not worry about the money" - although I am not stupid and I will not begin doing anything until funds are in my account or we have a contract signed

I think the back-up plan "just in case" is a must-do...as for price, that's a tough call and something I'm not real comfortable discussing, either, although the 2000 sounds reasonable considering the time it's going to take you and the rush job element. Good luck!

bro I think you are mentally insane, judging by your PM's to me, or you can't read, either way. I am asking for advice from other designers on what to charge for a rushed project, I am not seeking someone to do it for me, I am a web designer, I WILL BE DOING THE PROJECT FOR MY CLIENT, understand? Christ....

The PM spam has been dealt with.
I'm like Adam in how I charge. If this was a regular client or if it was a client I really wanted to land I would just do the work at my normal rates. If you are having to put off other client's work I would add a surcharge. I think 50% is reasonable, but I might go less. It depends on how much work I have in front of me and how much I want the new client.

thanks for dealing with the spammer or retard, whichever it was. So you would charge 50% of your normal hourly rate and tack that on ?

It depends. Usually I would just charge my usual rates. I'm pretty good at scheduling so I almost never have to do something right away. If it meant having to put off other clients for a few days then I would charge extra to do the work right away. I think 50% extra would be max and maybe 25% as a minimum.
