I recently started up a web site (presteignebusiness [dot] co [dot] uk) to help get quality traffic to my hosting site because my target market is local businesses and individuals. I'm hosting the site myself and giving free articles away to local businesses but I've just found out that the local town and community site is doing the same but at a price.

I've now found out that their community site is supported by the advertising revenue generated from a small number of adverts, and that this is just enough to cover their costs (e.g. hosting, poster printing and other activities). By undercutting them and offering free article submissions, the administrator is worried he will lose his adverts and that their site may even end up closing! I don't want to close down my site, but at the same time, the community web site (presteigne [dot] org [dot] uk) is extremely important to the local area and I don't want to damage it in any way.

WHAT DO I DO?!

Why not just take em on?

Or alternatively you could just work alongside them, don't bother them and they won't bother you. I'm sure theres room for two right?

Taking them on would be quite mean - as Waylon Smithers says in "Who shot Mr. Burns part 1?", "this isn't a rival company we're battling with...people won't stand for it" (sorry I'm a Simpsons fanatic ). Taking on the community web site (which is non-profit) would be very harsh.

I'm thinking about simply recommending their web site and advertising as well alongside mine - maybe this is the answer
