We are test running this Blog in order to learn if we should keep it or dump it...

Do you really need a welcome screen for the blog? I think you could put it entirely under your blog subdomain, you don't need the /wordpress additional directory

The icons on the side tended to confuse me at first, wasn't sure what they were for.

Also, if you're going to keep entire posts on the blog homepage, you probably don't need the "double sidebar" type of theme, it just takes up more space, and it could probably all more than fit in one sidebar.

Other than that, everything looks fine, including the categories, content, calendar, etc.

I agree with some of the above points. I would go with a 2 column theme. The larger posts I would insert the read more divider, so that one doesn't have to scroll so far down the page.

I think you've gotten some good suggestions on this so far. I second the 'enter' page comment.

It's a good idea, I say keep it. That is, if you really want it and plan to keep it updated.

there is an add floating at the right side, the consequence is that the page is double as large as it has to be.
technically everything works, but the search input field is difficult to click on (in firefox).
you should regularly update the content by adding new blogging items. certainly for your type of site (about web services right?). otherwise you'll have to dump it..

As I said this is first draft

- Gateway page and /wordpress folder most definitely will go out
- 3 columns layout must stay because of adsense (no better place to put them)
- dividers is good idea (we never thought about that)
