Good family site. Basic clean easy on the eye. I like the colors.

I like sites that are central in the screen.

What happened to your pics? Where are they?

Without any doubts if you add some images to all your text, then your site
become alive and will look much more happier.

I think your site need some graphical touch
header with relevant picture

some icons or other effect in the navigation

add pictures in the receipes pages

It seems you are still in the making of it ...

the first page looks empty you should consider putting some nice content (with pictures) in the front page, and don't forget pictures in the photography section

Pictures and contents are really one of the important on-page factors for a site...

Nice work anyway... Very clean. I like the color too...

Looks good. Like the uncluttered design. The colours look good on my screen.

Only thing I would suggest is that that the menu bar areas on the side change colour on roll-over (rather than having to rollover the text itself). That means that people with fat fingers (like me) can easily click on your menu items.

-ad a picture of the family on the front page. (maybe where you currently have the welcome image)
-Make the header image clickable (take you to home page) a lot of users expect your header image to link to your home page.

Thanks for your responses. I took your advice and centered the site, fixed the busted Wii link, (which is legit btw) added and footer and completed the <title> tag.

I have a site map, highlighting active link, dumping the frames and going to external CSS, solving validating problems, and making the main logo a link, all on the TODO list. I added some Graphics and photos, see recipes > Butternut Squash and Wild Rice Soup for a sample of my plans for all the articles

BTW what specify is wrong with using tables? I hear use CSS instead but I guess I’m not sure how to use CSS as an alternative to the tables I used to keep things in place. I’d love to hear more about this.

Hi Folks,

This is my first “real” site, well the framework for it anyway, very little of the content has been added at this time. I have stacks of stuff my family has asked me to add and don’t want to start adding stuff until I get the framework down pat. The Google ads are a little tacky but we are hoping the will generate enough cash to pay for the hosting of the site. As you can tell its basically a family website and place for my dad to share ideas and write some articles to share with the world.

I would love to get your feedback. Please don’t hold back, I can take it. Any suggestions, critiques are appreciated.

Looks good. I would make the logo a link back to the main page.

I agree with others that this is a nice clean and simple site but also agree that it needs more content. My marketing classes have taught me that when it comes to selling items, less is usually more. You have a limited amount of time to lead viewers to your products and convince them to buy. This is much harder to do if their attentions aren't focused on your products. While stunningly visual sites are impressive, they can often cost a company business by diverting attention away from the product at hand.

But, since your aren't selling anything, you don't have to worry about this. Your goal should be to provide the informational content you want in such away that views' attention is captured by this content. So I would keep the simple design and color layout you have while using a font size and color that is complementary to your background and your images. Remember, you want people to pay attention to "what" you are saying more than to "how" you are saying it.

As others have said before, pretty clean site you got yourself. You may want too screw around with the coloring a little bit. The colors you have now make it seem very old in my opinion. Also, you need to get some more content. When people go to your site, I am sure most are looking for 100's, maybe even 1000's of recipes. You should get some from any cookbook's you own, or some of your friends, just using different wording for your recipes. Otherwise, I think you have some potential. I like that it is a family site

and it has a good template, except for the colors as I mentioned above. And I wish you luck with it. By the way, I must admit, those pickeled peppers were amazing

at first glance it's missing a nice family logo..

as i navigated down the site started to get bigger and bigger and bigger, think you should try to keep the site in a same size whatever page you are on.

Add a logo index.html link to all pages.
