Website Review and Suggestions

Hey Everyone,

I've been building a site for my friend. It isn't totally functional yet, I'm just looking for expert critiques about the design.

Mainly, what we're doing right (makes me feel somewhat competent).

And .. . . What sucks and how we should change it. I can take it, since this is still early, and i haven't married the design yet.

I really appreciate any advice.

I like the layout, its simple and functional. I can't get over the content though - bookmarked! That hands video was hilarious and the rest of your contents great too. Keep it up, this is how you get repeat visitors

Yeah I guess speaking to the theme of the site, we hope our personalities will start coming out once we get our voices straight.

Simple and functional is what we were aiming at. But no "cool"?

I think the side bar is too busy on the home page. Need to think about that

.. everything looks fine to me . And i think a little more effort wud make the site more perfect if you can re-arrange the "Forum" section. may b integrate a free forum? or applying some graphical touch on the existing one? .. good luck buddy

hahaha. yeah i think the forums are a little ghetto looking. Will fix that in the next iteration.

ok i think i fixed it. can you ctrl-F5 and try again.

I think it was also happening in IE. It was a race condition where the js would try to parse the dom, when the dom wasn't fully built so some of my js controls would not initialize.

I added the subscription modules in the top right hand corner. For us techies, it is obviously rss or email subscription.

However, i kind of wonder if this paradigm is too assuming that everyone will understand. Maybe I should use another paradigm? Any suggestions?

My friend said possibly just stick an text box for emails and a button that says subscribe to it. people who use rss will know rss, so i should focus on making the email simpler and more accessilbe.

Thoughts?

hey everyone. I've done some major updates to look and feel over the past couple of weeks (much more contrast being one of them). I'm out of ideas on what I could improve on.

Anyone have any ideas what works and what sucks?

while blogs are a big thing these days for making cash. I think it's a good idea to at least add some sort of style or themed design to it to make it stand out from the crowd. GuyTalk is a cool name but will you own the .com?
