Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuaaaaah!
The text loads .. okay, quite much, the small images load .. hmm .. the background-header-image loads ... huaaaaaa!
Please, I want to be honest and direct, so don't take this as an offend, but the top graphic is plain uncool. it's even annoying, too much contrast, to much eye-catching but yet no sense in it.
So: I like the buttons on the top-right, they have a nice look, why not try to make a similar header graphic?
It's not always about complexity and 8372564872364 layers in Photoshop and this kind of stuff - it's about overview, and I have to apologize, but I think your page is quite hard to overview.
You have the news header there - good idea, but again, crappy background. It is really distracting if you use a white text and as a background bright-grey and black.
If you want to keep this pattern, use dark-gray instead.
Then a bit about usability, your User panel should always be very visible on the first look. People expect it from websurfing experience always on the top of the page - middle, left or right is quite the same, but it has to be on the top.
And last but not least, on every post there are two graphics, "view code" and "best viewed in IE". Yuk. They're so colorful and big and blatant that they really visually overlay the real reason for each post - the designs themselves!
Hope this was helpful for you.
