Hi guys

Here's a new homepage concept I'm working on

Tincture Adept Test Page

Comments:

- there will be proper gradient behind the flash menu, I accidentally deleted the gif that was there
- the bottom near the emporer's feet is a bit gibbled
- the emporer is a placeholder graphic, a custom illustration of a wizard will be going there
- I designed it to scale for all resolutions
- I will probably ditch 1 "new work" box and move the "best of" stuff up a bit.
- at home, the colored areas were a deep red. Here at work on my LCD, they are purple-ish!

Need input:
- the white area is boring (that's where my news updates will go) - any advice on what to put there or how to dress things up a bit?

Best Regards

Jarrett

Hi There,

The graphics are very impressive and the layout is very effective, the fact you have made it for multiple resolutions also adds credit, my only advise would be that the eye finds it easier to view black on white text and for partially sighted viewers white text is a big no no, there are approximately 8.6 million disabled and partially sighted in the UK alone.

I do see that you are giving information on a trendy subject and that traditionaly this calls for dark colours and white text, but you will be eliminating a good amount of viewers, perhaps if you considered keeping the graphics but lightning the border to a more pastal shade it would not emphasise the boring white as for your reference and would enable you to stick with the black on white.

Also remember for most viewers searching for information that less in more, the minimulistic approach for graphics does not distract from the real issues in the site and also supports fast loading pages.

Also don't forget to alt tag the images and add text links for the search engines.

Hope this helps.

Suggested Rating Criteria:
Appearance - cool graphic, however the menu on the right hand side looked a little cheap B+
Colors - Reasonable, B+
Fonts, Good title, otherwise Nothing special, A-
Graphics - Cool graphic, but I think it needs to be cleaned up a bit as it's got some stray pixels on the background Neat stuff on the menu .. but maybe you should try to automate that a bit while the user is just sitting on the web page? I would have missed it if I didn't scroll my mouse over it.... A-
Logos, Didn't see a logo, except for the title - B
Layout - Clean. Like that. B+
Backgrounds no bg=good bg

Functionality Navigation,
Links - they seemd to all work off the home page. Commissions link didn't work. F (never have broken links)

Load Time - Slow C+

Bugs: Commissions link didn't work

Overall & Content Purpose of site, and Does appearance and purpose of site match

What is the purpose of the website? Wasn't clear. Might want to fix that. Assuming gaming website, yeah it was appropiate. C+

Very nice site! I would not change a thing. I think it is awesome! Did you design it by yourself?

Yep, designed it myself The new page concept will be tweaked, populated with more images (under the empty "new work" boxes) and uploaded once I receive the new Wizard graphic I commissioned.

I purchased a little program called "flashation". Look for it on the web - not sure if I'm allowed to link to it since it's a commercial product. It had a selection of neat button effects and was easy to customize.

I am not very sure what your intention of the site ( very nicely done) it is to make some money or for information purposes.

I would suggest that you put up some brief on the white area. The brief can be about what this site is about and guide visitors around your site.
If you want visitors through SE, you must have contents on the page so that you can be ranked and listed in SE. Just a thought.

Yep, once I make this concept page the index page, it will have content at all times (updates every few days). Right now it's just a layout. The intention is to sell my work and also give hobby info etc.

You are allowed to put a link, because in a round about way you are advertising them for free.

With any site you want to create a "WOW" sensation and I believe that your left menu does exactly that. I want just on your site for about 2 minutes playing with it alone.

With some more work and refining this site will turn out be pretty awesome. Keep it up.
