Website Review and Suggestions

After all the help I have received from you guys for this first site I am a little nervous showing you what I have done .

Just to set it up first. This site was taken on entirely as a learning project, that said I think it is a good site, or has the potential to be a good site.

It is a DVD movie database. Basically a streamlined version of IMDB/Rotten Tomatoes. Whats good about this site is its very easy to use, not alot of excess garbage and it lets you search by various ways.

Sorry if this is coming across as a cheap plug, just dont want people to go there and say that its a bad idea and already been done a million times .

Anyways please review, and I would especially love to hear from Adam, Chris, Lady'n Red and all the others who have given me alot of help along the way.

I like the look of the site. Your header graphic is funny and eye-catching. I can't quite decide if the menu above it should be centered or if it's better as-is. I also like the use of gradients and shadows around the frames. The blue might dominate a little too much overall, however. If the uppermost center section could stand out a little more from the background you may catch even more eyes. Maybe this was intentional, but you have an entire column, the right-most, waiting and ready for ads or other information.

The content looks good, but I have to admit I'm not crazy about sites that mainly link to other sites. But that's just me. Do you have plans to write your own content as well as link to other news articles? That would jazz it up considerably content-wise. Adding more photos within the articles would also provide more visual stimulus as the page scrolls.

All in all a very good first "real" webpage.

Thanks for the review. I completely agree about sites just linking to other sites. All that is on my site is just for the news. If you look on the left hand side it has the Moment In History article which is unique content (more or less). And then the actual database itself doesnt link, although it does source where the information was taken from for integrity purposes.

As far as the right column goes I dont really have anything else to put there except for the search bar and some ads. And I think you're right about adding pictures to the news, I will have to get on that.

Ill have to take a look at changing the top menu to stand out more as well. To be honest the layout itself is a freebe I picked up on the internet because Im artistically inept, although I did change a good bunch. The underlying code is all mine.
