I would recommend changing the look of the template as well, it looks very... 90's in design. Just my opinion, but it is too minimalistic for my taste.

yeah... its kinda just an experimental project for upping my monetization and php skills etc. it wont look as 90s with some ads, a banner, and a navbar though

any suggestions?

I would suggest a vector styled design, it is different than the drab web 2.0 that all image hosts and such have lately. Get a stock photo have someone or you vectorize the picture of someone, and create a vector styled banner and you could go from there. You don't even have to do a vector, but get some type of banner that is eye catching, or else it's just like every other image host.

Vector style? Whats that mean?

A vector, is an image which has been changed into I guess you could say a cartoon, there are many styles to vector but it has become a new style.

Vectorizing can cost a little bit of money, I would post links to guys I know that can do it, but I don't have enough posts yet.

Ah, I now have enough posts to post a link. Alright, one extremely talented designer I know of is BlindChild, his website is located here - blind-fate.com he is a bit pricy but he can evaluate your site and find out what you need then get back to you with a price. I personally do web design, but more print design and I currently do not do vector.
