Welcome to DeskShot

Desk Shot is a site where the members can upload pictures of their Desks. Once the members have uploaded the pictures they can then tag items within the picture. Other members may also tag items within the pictures as well as comment on the Desk Shots.

This site is in a beta stage. We are still working on features and fixing a couple bugs so please be patient with us.

It took me 2 and a half long days to create this site from start to where it's at. It's not even close to being finished but I think that it's far enough along to release.

=======================

A little bit more about how it works. Here's a link to an uploaded "Desk Shot":
RyanAmos' DeskShot

On the right you can see the tags for this picture. If you hover your mouse over them it will highlight them in the picture. If you click the links it will attempt to take you to the correct product via Amazon.com.

If you're logged in you may add tags to anyone's pictures. In the near future this will require approval from the user who uploaded that photo though.

I think this will be very successful for you. I really like the tagging feature of tagging parts of the image. The design and idea are very good. I am not so sure if there are other sites that do a similar thing though. I was thinking of one for screen shots of people's desktops which usually get shared throughout forums.

If I had more money for investment, I would be looking to buy this project off of you, I like it that much . Good luck with it and you may see me sign up for this later on hehe.

Thanks for the compliments. It's taken me quite some effort to get this done. I've spent nearly all my waking hours in the last 3 days working on this. I'm hoping it will turn out as good as I have anticipated.

That is very good time to get the project done in my opinion. I am working on some simple but high quality content sites now, but once I am a bit better at design and learn some more things like PHP and flash I would like to try some more fun projects.

Just out of curiosty, are you a full time developer?

Thanks. I didn't think of the original idea which was just to upload screenshots. But when I was proposed to program the site this is what I originally thought of which I thought was a better idea. That's when a friend and I purchased the domain and the idea and made the site.

Make sure you register though.

Just to update everyone on some features.

I've added email system. It will email the owner of the desk shot when someone else tags the picture or someone else comments on their desk shot. This will be an option soon in the profile settings.

You can now delete tags off your OWN desk shots or tags you have placed on someone else's desk shot.

Once someone else tags something on your desk shot. You must approve it by clicking the "A" button. This will prevent people from tagging items you do not want tagged. The tag will only show up for the desk shot owner and the person who added the tag until it is approved.

The way it tags... by making those squares.
Has that been done before? Ive seen things similar for tagging, but not your method exactly.

It'd be really cool if the squares we're resizeable, in case the item is really small, or really big. That way it wont show all the excess space around the item.

Yea, I agree with the resizing the tags and that's my next major feature that I'll be upgrading. It's just going to take some time for me to code that.

Yes, the tagging feature has been done before and actually I got the idea off of Facebook but it's a little different concept.

Yeah, funny you said that. I just checked my facebook for the first time in months and noticed they have the same method now. Now that's an innovative way to see who's the half naked drunk guy in the background of the last party you were at. :innocent:
