Website Review and Suggestions

I've just finished designing my portfolio site and I'd love some honest comments on it. I'm a freelance entertainment writer and wanted a site with loads of personality, I'm so fed up with the amount of writers sites that are just plain white. My theme is very pink and girlie so I want to know will it deter people or do you think its OK?

I'd want to see pages (with buttons at the top) that show me writing samples and where you've been published. I'd also drop the adsense and remove some of the unnecessary blog elements (calendar, etc)

The site as it stands looks nice, although personally I think it looks a bit flowery and would put me off hiring you for any corporate PR work. My first impression was 'girly site' rather than 'serious site which I might want to buy a service from'.

Also, you really need to add more contact details than just an 'email here' link. If you want to be a serious freelancer, particularly as some sort of journalist/writer, then you must list a phone number which people can contact you on. Whenever I've worked with media people in the past they've always preferred a phone call to an email, so you need to provide that as an option.

I think that the fact the site is pink and 'girly' as you put it may well put a few people off, but I'm hoping not too many. When I write, I write with personality and try to make my work stand out rather than just follow the norm, which I hope my site also represents. The amount of writers websites out there that ive seen that are just plain white, boring and a couple of samples slapped onto a page has put me off going down the route.

Thanks for taking the time to have a look at it pwaring, you've made some great points and I'm going to try and take alot of what you have said on board.

You also might want to customize your permalinks structure to something like
/%postname%/
