Hello all, I was refered the this forum by another user. I am looking for feedback regarding the initial design and structure of my new wehsite http://slangmarket.com along with some new ideas. In addition, I have lauched a blog at http://theslangmarket.blogspot.com/ to match the site. I look forward to hearing some solid constructive criticism. Please keep in mind that both sites were created recently, thus the suggestions I am looking for are more structural and SEO oriented as opposed to content base.

Thanks a bunch,
SlangMarket

Hi Slang Market... whats the goal of your site? i couldnt tell with all teh mish-mash of content that you have on the blog... My normal suggestion for web design is to look at your competitors and try to to go too far away from them... but I couldnt make a suggestion based what you have...

I think SiteFLipAcademy's suggesstion of using CMS would be the best way for you to get a professional design with out too much of a learning curve... I'd suggest Joomla (that just my preference since I know it)

If you givve more feed back id be glad to give you more tips....

Agree with above. Know what the site does first. Design second

Yup agree your home page slang market, doesnt tell me what you company is or the site is, and just looks like a construction page to start with.

Also the only links to on the site are to other companies.

I personally think every website should tell you what the site is about straight away and im afraid that does not do this. http://slangmarket.com/. It just tells me and maybe others to ring what could be a premium number and we are not sure what for. You need to think about that one.

Maybe a link to the blog and a little description will help. I know you didnt wnat feedback on content but i couldnt help my self.

Anyway the design on the home page is good with a good mix of colours. Personally in the logo i would make all letters centered height wise, basically move the H and E up a bit in THE etc etc.

Regarding the blog, you need to use a CMS, currently i don't think the text style goes well with the grey background and the colour is ok. But invest in a CMS like Joomla or Wordpress.

Hi SlangMarket. Here's my review, hope it helps
  • On my 1024 x 768 resoluton, the width is a TAD wide and thus puts in a horizontal scroll bar. Try narrowing the width down a bit to fix this
  • Shorten the height of the big blue box below "THE SLANG MARKET" in the header
  • Other than that, there is not muchj content on the site. Try adding some more so users understand exactly what the site is about and why they should call you for more information.
  • Pretend you yourself are a user and ask yourself, "Would I actually call this number?" If you wouldn't, add content, etc, so you would!

Thanks for the quick replies, it means alot. As for the lacking content and information, I have started the site on the side and frankly have very limited time to work on the needed aspects. I hope I didn't waste anyones time... I'll keep you all updated as I am able to produce more features. The advice was great.

Thanks again!

Hey SlangMarket,

I have outsourced some of my writing at times like this...
I know most peopl are scared of outsourcing but all you need
to do is post the kind of articles you want written over at scriptlance
and you can often get a load of articles for like 30.

I would post something like this:

I need 5 - 300 word articles on (this topic)
Here's some sample article titles.
>title 1
>title 2
>title 3 (etc)
I'll be checking to make sure that the
content is original.

This should help you get some focused content
on your site for less thatn 30 bucks and with very
little of your time

Best of luck
Chaunna

To be honest, there isn't really much to review at this point.

Hi SlangMarket,

I am more a blogger which means by default also a webmaster as we control the appearance and behavior of our blog. I see you blog uses
Simple II

template. What exactly is the purpose of this blog? I love sidebar and menu bar with tabs as it makes navigation easy. In fact, my favorites are 3 column templates and one of my blog, Blogger FAQ, have a menu bar with tabs at the top. However, waiting for that 48 hour day to make the tabs functional. Yours have none of these, but that is OK as long as there are reasons behind not having them. But it makes navigation of the blog/website difficult.

Not just for websites, for anything, the first step is to define objectives (purpose) before any designing take place.

For your main site.. you need to tell more information about what you do or what the company does or.. what the whole point of calling your number is all about.

For the blog.. put the digg vote off to the side, not the middle at the top. Also think about some alternative coloring. Maybe download some premade templates to help you. Frankly, the yellow text on the grey background made my stomach queezy, and the black text on the grey background was hardly noticeable. And when you hover over a link, it turns black, making it really hard to read.

The bright red text was easy to read, but the dark red text, totally unreadable.

I would really suggest downloading a theme, even a free one, and trying different setups / layouts.

Good luck!

Thanks again, the feedback is great. To clear up some confusion, at the moment there is no company, that should explain the lacking content. Currently, I am very happy with an attractive design, fair seo status, and some catchy buzz until I actually form the company.

Thanks again guys... I'm still open to any other suggestion...

P.S. NaughtyGirl , I will take care of the Digg form in the next week, I think I place it at the top by accident and never fixed it. Thanks...
