Website Review and Suggestions

I would really appreciate having comments, suggestions and/or general input on my first web pages done in CSS.

I would appreciate your input on the general look of the following two (2) pages. The second page is not 100% as you will notice a difference at the top of the page just below the border sperating the company name from the content of the page.

http://vance.thebams.org/css/index2.html is the first page and is finished and complete - for now.

http://vance.thebams.org/css/about.html is the page I mentioned above.

I do not have a creative bone in my entire body so any input - good or bad - would be very helpful. Basically I guess what I am asking is of the two (2) pages, which do you prefer and why?

i dont like the green, i think white would be better imo

BAsed on the two you have given I and it is a personal opinion, would go for the first. It looks more professional than the 2nd because of the images down the right side.

well, both are very professional looking sites.
very well structured. though i have a hard time figuring out what's one the footer. maybe because green & blue doesn't fit well together.

I'm no designer myself but IMHO. I think the overall layout is ok but the points about the colours are valid. I would think about moving the left navigation up slightly though, the large gao between the top of this and the banner looks too big (try halfing it)

Have you tried mixing the ideas of the 1st one into the 2nd - i.e. in the 1st page the main content is a different colour then the navigation on the left, the second would look better like this IMHO.

Try going for pastel colours, they tend to be less offensive and people tend to have less of an opinion one way or the other (which can be good or bad depending on what you want!), it may look better with some of the images on the right of the 1st one in the second one (although they wouldn't have to be down the right, just a couple of the images in the right place should make it look less cluttered)

I don't like this layout 1st layout at all reminds me so much of the late 90's and early 2000's I recommend finding a free template and using that. until you have gotten a sense of style nice information though.

it looks like the color is not much great but it look more professional to me a little bit of adjustment to the color and all are just fine.

I have a few comments about your design. First, is this for a professional business that you're running? If so, the first thing you want to do is develop trust from your customers. I have a feeling this site won't do that. It looks, quite frankly, pretty unprofessional, and I would shy away from trusting your business with something as important as payroll services.

Onto some specific points. At the bottom of the page, your links do not mesh with the colors you've chosen at all. In addition, they're overlapping the main content area and the footer, and I had to strain to read any of them.

Second, your buttons on the left are all misaligned. None of the text is centered and it seems like you just kind of threw them over there. Also, the border of the main content area is messed up. It goes from black to weird gradient in the top left corner. The picture on the right are just plain distracting and don't serve your cause at all, masked as they are by the green. If you want to use 1 or 2 of them, put them in your main content area.

Finally, going to the Web Design area, your main content background just disappears and your entire site changes colors. The buttons also change style completely. It's very distracting and unrecognizable that I'm even on the same site except for the header.

In my opinion, you're due for a total redesign here. I would recommend grabbing a free template from open source web design or hiring a freelancer to redesign the site for you. Right now, it's not usable and doesn't generate the trust that you want and need as a crucial component of a business's strategy.

From a designers point of view, I think it looks a little bland and not professional, but that's just me

I don't like the color combo and the images quality is low

Again some people wouldn't honestly care but as a designer myself I don't like it

I like the positioning and how it's laid out I just think it needs better graphics, perhaps hire someone to spice 'em up a little?

The site looks professional and it has also good content. But I think it will look much better if you change its green color to white.

I think the appearance and the colour is scheme is not so good, but the content is really good and informative.....I think it is better to give focus on the appearance of the site!

Some text overlaps with other text on the bottom of the index page. The last button of the menu is partly cut. (in Firefox)

I would have to say both the designs/colors do not look professional. It looks kinda amatuerish the way its all layed out especially the 2nd one.

I would say try to fix the navi links at the bottom of the page and the border, and change the buttons. I will relook at this page again in the comming few days to see if you changed anything. Hope this was partly helpful

I'm not big on the Green/navigation part. Looks too... late 80's early 90's for me.

Hi,

I agree with Jacob, looks very 'early web' to me.
Also the second of the two seems to jump around when I use the rollover effects on the left menu. Things to check; are the original image and rollover versions the same height, if so, how about font sizes?

The site seems to have an out of the box feel to it, and I would not be likely to engage your services.
