Hello All,

I have 2 concepts to make website.

1) Free article zine

2) free classified adds

which one shoould i prefer.

it will take some time since i have to code in my spare time.

this will be my first individual venture.

now problem is 'content'

how do i arrange content for both.
like free classfied adds where do i get them,
or where do i get initial articles in the begining at somewhat no cost.

I might go for both one by one.

Idea is to earn money?
may be adsense or affiliate. or any other suggestion?

will these two concepts generate enough traffic?

thanks for all you suggestions or any other suggestion

other than above two.

Honestly, these two ideas have been done to death. You'll never make headway in the classified ads domain against CraigsList unless you drill down to a very specific niche.

Free articles have been around since forever and the market is saturated. Again, you'd have to concentrate on some type of niche to get anything out of that idea.

To get content for an ads site, you'd have to convince people to post ads. I'm not sure how you do that, especially if your site is initially empty. For the article site, I would just say write your own articles at first to post. If you wanted to monetize these types of sites, I would recommend adsense, since affiliate links wouldn't really fit with the type of content.

You can get traffic if you're willing to work hard and throw some marketing dollars at the concepts.

Nick is right. Both have been done again and again. Give some thought for something more original.

Thanks Lpspider,

I agree with your suggestion.

What ever i plan or think is already existing.

making a site is not that a problem but making it successful is a real tough job and requires hard work and consistency.

being aware of this fact i am ready to put my hardwork for coming years

but I need a starting point.

and first main question is what to do?

Is forum a good idea?

One thing I am clear is something inwhich content could be added by visitors too.

or do you have any suggestions? anything for webmaster?

I do suggest you go for shortcut, instead of develop it by your own hand. It would take you forever to develop it. Why did you need to build it if out market already have the free classified and free article site script? Unless, your site is special and custom to fit into new concept.

Yes, whatever you think in your mind now there is already have out there in market.

To motivate you, only hard work will achieve success.

ervinter you have a point,

why should i reinvent wheel. what ever time it takes to develop it will be much much more than using availoable script.

can you suggest some site or link where I can download

asp.net / asp script(s) [public domain]
100% working and free to use and edit.

Thanks for your help.

Is any ready site or sites with data ? or classified or something which could be used?

thanks again for pointing me towards right direction

You are welcome hilladey.

You can use the script such as Classifieds site started kit.
http://www.asp.net/downloads/starter-kits/classifieds/

I used it on one of my classified site.

Hi,

To take a quote from The Simpsons 'Why dont you just find somthing and put a clock in it'. Well that kind of applies here, if you are not improving somthing that already exists it will fall flat on its face and more thank likely end up costing you money, I have first hand experience (grrr... my spellings bad tonight)

There are 3 kinds of ideas

-Old
-Improved
-New

When it comes to websites only bother with the latter of the three, and only the second of the three if you can drastically improve the existing idea, or market it exceptionally well.

And as for using free scripts... They would not be free if you could make any real money from them.

Cheers

aReJay and other members are spot on.

There isn't any point creating a site (for pure profit) if you are just going to copy an idea that's been done (unless you really have a passion for what you are doing but in that case you probably don't care about money).

Finding something that hasn't been done or finding something that you can improve on will take some time. I would suggest not overthinking things just sit back and wait until you get fustrated with a website or a service and think . . .you know I could do this better.

thats well said but finding new concept is difficult.

i have paln to one site for nonprofit thing.
but yes for others money is also important.

i dont ahve any new concept and for now i cnat think of anything different.

but from preexisting thing can we make something which can get popular faster than other concepts?

forum? article?

1) i am curently working on a forum for someone
2) After this would be working on article thing

3) if I create a site with different channels and information on each channel plus comment kinda thing then will it be able to make money thru adsense?

and if yes then how much can one earn form adsense?

what are the different ways webmaster can make money from their site ??

thanks a lot for your guidance.

Hey Hilladey,

What you need to realise is there are three ways to aquire visitors.

1)Paid - either per click, per lead (signup), per 1000 banner impressions etc.
2)Natural - Finding you via a search engine or other unpiad source
3)Direct - Usually people who are already members pr are returning to your site for some reason

Now to start off you can cross off Natural and Direct. As a startup you will not be getting any traffic from SE's or from other sites or directly because on one knows you exist. If you are listed in search engines you will be so low in the rankings its not going to matter, or you will be ranked for some obscure keyword that no one is going to be searching for.

That being said the only way you are initially going to aquire traffic is from paid sources. Now to earn money from adsence the CPC incoming ave must be lower than CPC outgoing ave.

I dont advertise PPC so I dont know the facts but I would think that less than 1/100 of your visitors will click an adsence add. This means that to profit your CPC outgoing needs to be over 100 x CPC Incoming.

Yes people earn money from adsence and they earn anything from $.01-10,000's per month. However once again you are not going to make anything if your idea is not new or differnet.

As far as I see it people make money from their sites by one of two methods.
1)Sell somthing
2)Help someone else sell somthing

Cheers

GREAT POST,

it has given me good inputs sell soemthing or affiliate
traffic is key,

1)i think advertising offline will be much much cheaper for me
2) making something which is different ( and now i might have not seen something online and thought it is a new idea)
3) selling services/products ( myown) and others ( stick to this)

Rome was not built in a day.

but people like you when help and suggest then it becoomes easy for new peopple like me to do something.

can you suggest me a site or concept which might not earn me any thing but can get lot of traffic?

can is it wise/ leagal to use bulk email service ( available on line) for a non profit social website? with no advertisement or some thing?

i will be working on a site on a social cause

if i give my contact information , email is news and informative and not selling anything and unsubscribe link is there

will it be SPAM ? ILLEGAL? technically.

thanks once again for your direction
