You asked how to make the forum popular.

1) Obviously lots of active posts! You need to be able to get a lot of visitors and once you get a certain number interacting it tends to start to climb itself.

2) You also need to make it user friendly. I tend to stick to forums that make using it easy. For example: I like to be able to see quickly what new posts there have been since I last logged on, what replies there have been to posts I have made, what are the new posts today etc.

3) In terms of keywords, you'll find keywords for your tyoe of forum quite competitve. You need to find some niche keywords. Try Wordtracker. Here's a short video I did a while ago that shows you how to use it.
