Website Review and Suggestions

Hi all, working on my first website, its for a building material company. Its just a homepage at this point but was looking for some feedback on the layout and the front page. Its just on a test server atm, will eventually be at the site in my sig.

Here's my 2 cents:

Overall the site looks dated. It doesn't look modern or fresh.

The site is begging for a really strong logo. I think you can include a symbol that could graphically express the company a bit better.

There are way too many gradients going on. I would simplify these down. Or only use gradients for a few things.

I don't understand why there is the same menu on the top as there is on the side. 2 exact menus are redundant. Choose one and remove the other. This will help to alleviate any confusion from customers.

i think, you need to work upon the design and layout a bit more. It looks a bit dull, maybe because of the shades used. and i think the vertical menu should provide different set of details, it is same as the vertical menu.

The layout is alright but this site needs a total redesign. You need a strong logo like Skinny said. I suggest you align it left. New cleaner-looking horizontal and vertical nav bars would be great. (ie. not so much gradients, different fonts) Also, using the same picture twice on the homepage is a little tacky. Sorry.
