Very long story short, I've been working with a guy for almost a year and this will be the third time I've had to overhaul the site (not because of me mind you). As it stands now, the site is just a forum using phpbb3. A few people are stubborn about change and the site's generating far less traffic, neither of which are concerns of mine.

Before I made the mistake of getting involved, the site had boards that looked like this: http://www.dailyhattrick.com/hockeycoachforums/. The code for that was lost god-knows-where (not my fault, it was on a separate server) and they want to go back to that style. I can't imagine how that is the slightest bit more user friendly than phpbb3, but frankly I don't care since every time I have to redo the site the bill goes up (and I become further strict with the billing).

Current website is at hockeycoach.com

Anyways, does anyone know of a message board system that echoes that ancient style or some format for phpbb that does so? Would be nice to keep all the data I've got for the current board but I've already warned them that if the system changes the old info will be lost. Any suggestions to reformat the boards are appreciated, at least for a couple months until he changes his mind again.

Just taking a shot in the dark here but I used to integrate phpbb + 2 with Joomla CMS using a bridge component that should still be available. Anyway, you could "bridge" it over to joomla where you have complete control to make it flat file and take away all styling / graphics (which is what they seem to want).

Can explain more, if you want to persue it. Don't have any live versions to show you, mine all use Fireboard Forum with Joomla CMS.
