Website Review and Suggestions

Hi, I developed PenpalVoice.com over the last few months and it's currently in pre-beta stage, so no, it's not completely finished. But I think it's sensible to get feedback early.

What do you think of www.penpalvoice.com

My main gripe is that nobody seems to be interested in joining. Yes it's the chicken and egg issue, but even my closest friends have shunned the site though I wrote them emails inviting them to sign up and test it out. I even spoke to many personally...yet they refuse to sign up to test it out!

What is so wrong with the site that people seem to be completely uninterested? I've spent hundreds and hundreds of hours (on top of the hundreds of hours of university study) and sleepless nights developing this so it's devastating to see the poor reception. Sorry for the rant lol.

EDIT: I just wanted to add - the reason I have a small picture of myself along with an MP3 of me speaking German isn't because I'm in love with myself. Just trying to put a personal face to the website - hoping to build trust that way

My advice on this is take a close look at some of the sites that are similar to yours in concept. For example, sites that allow social meetings and see how they have their front page. You will find out that you might be a little off. You need to put some attractive members pictures, success stories, some potential people that you might meet. Also describe how the experience would be by joining your site.

Your RED front page right now does not give me any insentives to join..

Sounds like an interesting concept, but do not know how practical.

The idea is the problem unfortunately... Your site says "this is not a social network site, this is not facebook/mypsace. But what you offer is vastly less than social networking sites.

You need to specialize it for learning languages. Pump up the language aspects and create tools that help people tutor eachother or learn a language... I dunno, Good Luck.
