I've had many people make recommendations to me about the direction of my website > http://www.puredezigner.com. So after a few months of the launch date, I've decided to make a new totally redesigned website, but while I am coding this out I'd like to give my visitors a revamped version before going totally new.

I have tested this site in safari and ff3 for the mac, please let me know if there are any issues in FF2 and ie6+

The proposed revamp / temp site can be viewed at:

In the process I am looking into ways to increase my SEO efforts, this leads to me ask, will links to useful web related resources such as this forum and other priceless site help or hurt my SEO efforts? they are all equal or higher in PR than my website.

Thanks in advance!
Curtis

First Impression
"TOO DARK!"

Design

First, let me start out by telling you what I like. I like the way the navigation interacts with the mouse. It's cool. Here's what I don't like: how it's executed. Your site is too round, and not in a cool way. The backgrounds you have for your headers just look too puffy. The same goes for your logo. It's trying too hard to reach for "Web 2.0" and it looks really fuzzy. Right now everything feels like it's trying to o hard to look "cool and up to date."

You should consider picking a color scheme that works well in black colors. Perhaps just using black with another, more vibrant color to create contrast, or using better shades of gray, and a background that isn't pure black. Be inventive!

Another thing I've noticed is that the text on your front page is two different sizes. Never use headers for creating body text, it ruins consistency. People who want to read your page will read it, regardless of text size, you don't need to throw it at them.

Content

All of your "sales copy" is essentially two sentences in different forms. "I'm Curtis. I love web design." You could easily reduce the three paragraphs into one comprehensive one that might work better for you.

You've got some decent portfolio samples that show off a much better array of skill than your actual portfolio is right now. Don't go all out, but try to be consistent with showing your best stuff.

Overall

Overhaul the design, reduce everything down, and you'll be good to go.

i feel the main text contrasts too much with the background, thus, it's hard to read.

i'm not sure if this was intentional, but your logo is blurry. if it was intentional, i would change it.

you have this banner in the middle with a image faded in on the left, however, there's nothing on the right?

your link font is too dark compared to your normal font, so when you have links within a paragraph of text, it looks like some words are blacked out. same with header font in the services page.

lastly, i would remove all those links on the left-hand side of your portfolio. this is your bread and butter page to show your skills. why use up valuable real estate by displaying outbound links? use the space and make your portfolio images bigger or a more in-depth description of each entry.
