I have finally gotten around to uploading my new art website. I know that it has tables, and am in the process of trying to figure out how to create that kind of image gallery with divs instead. I am also trying to decide whether to use a script or something to enlarge the paintings in a different way instead of having them open up in an entirely new page. What do you guys think of doing that? I would love to hear any comments or suggestions!

Hi geekgal, javascript makes for very nice photo galleries. You can try going to google and searching for javascript photo galleries

Galleria and (E)2 are both very nice scripts worth taking a look at.

you could also take a look at lightbox as well.

your artwork is fantastic. however, your web design, or lack thereof, brings down the overall presentation of your work. if your website is intended for professional purposes and applications, such as getting potential clients, i would look into hiring someone to completely design your site.

Your very talented, great paintings. I agree with hartofalyon, if you want to sell your product, get the site designed professionally. http://www.peterlik.com/home.html Something designed along these lines would help.

Yea lightbox would be good additional. You have to make it more professional, it looks a bit poor maybe at the moment. Try to add js-jquery effects and restyle fonts at least

The actual gallery is nice, but overall, the site is very plain. The menu is very drab, and there's really nothing that catches the eye (except for the actual painting.)

Portfolios for artists, photographers or designers should portray more of an aesthetic quality considering the content of their sites.

grammapecos I totally agree. The site doesn't do your work justice, could use a template then draw the layout and scan it in?

Thanks so much for the suggestions guys, and sorry for the delay in responding! I have been out of town for Thanksgiving, so I haven't had the chance to work on it anymore, but I will definitely check out the javascript links. Galleria looks really interesting. I plan on adding more artsy content as I get the time.

What is your opinion of flash slideshows versus javascript for art websites?

I liked the paintings and I liked the website you've developed to show them. Even if you use tables your site is easy to navigate and find the painting one is interested in.
What about adding artist's photo to About the Artist page?

Just use a script like lightbox or simple viewer.

Javascript, specifically, Lightbox, is the way to go there. What the site needs is some color. Your background is too dark and your foreground is, well, bland. Check out http://forrestcroce.com, for instance. It's one I've been working on here and there for one of our mods who is an outstanding amateur photographer. Something along those lines would frame your work pretty well, or at least give you some ideas.

great site but maybe you should have some movement or graphics in more of the site too much dead space.
