That's just another reason why it shouldn't look template like.

I don't have any idea what you are talking about. Its a custom web design template. Why wouldn't I want it to look like one if thats what it was.

I don't think it looks ugly or anything, but I think the chap with the sarcasm was just expressing himself wrong. "template-like" might well be rewritten as "generic" -

it looks like a million website templates on everything from MS Publisher to 1and1's online web-design tools - the rectangle on the left with the buttons, fairly generic, not particularly original in any way, no little twist or touch, then the top graphic - a big rectangle, fairly generic, not very unique - and the choice of imagery - trees and sky... a bit "microsoft desktop backgroundy"...

Don't get me wrong, it looks lovely. But lovely doesn't always cut it. I mean I was just thinking for a second about it and I suddenly saw in my mind's eye some really jungle-like branches and what are those things tarzan would swing on - some of those, winding round a trunk, and wooden signposts coming out on either side, left and right, as the menu options, and well so much more than just two trees, a blue sky and some rectangles.

Put it like this - I'd never pay for a template like that because I know that not only could I find 10,000 like it for free but I could probably design something very similar, despite being pretty rubbish with graphic design... and whatever I messed up could be tweaked and cleaned in a few minutes by someone I know a bit more visual than me.

Originality, boldness, and a desire to stand out from the crowd can make waves.

Just my 28 cents.

It looks nice. But, I'd recommend removing the 'Go Green' reflection in the banner. I know reflections are fashionable right now. However, they are a bit over done. And, given the context (i.e., the banner's blue sky on a clean but earthly looking site), it seems particularly out of place here.
